Great Surf Spots in Taghazout for Beginners and Pros
Got a week's surf holiday in Taghazout? Here are the spots to try and score! Here’s a quick guide to our top five surf spots in and around Taghazout, along with some honourable mentions, to help you navigate the waves during your Moroccan surf holiday.
Anchor Point
Arguably the most renowned surf spot in Morocco, Anchor Point is celebrated for its long, peeling right-handers that can offer rides extending over 200 meters. The wave features a steep take-off, leading into walling sections perfect for carving manoeuvres, and culminates in hollow, fast sections ideal for barrels (if bigger and a slight offshore). This point break works best at low tide with a Westerly swell and needs a decent sized swell to work well (or clean Westerly) and is predominantly suited for experienced surfers due to its rocky take off point, big drop and a few caves underneath causing some interesting currents in the whitewater…

Killer Point
Named after the occasional sightings of killer whales off the coast, Killer Point is a major swell magnet in the area, capable of handling giant swells that can be impressive to watch from the cliffs above. The wave offers long rides with various sections, including speed walls and barrel opportunities, making it a favourite among advanced surfers.
Accessing the break requires either a 20-minute paddle out (keeps out or spreads out the crowds as well) or a wander along the cliff to jump off the rocks, and it works best on low to mid tides.

Anza
Located south of Taghazout, Anza is a versatile beach break that offers waves suitable for all levels of surfers. The spot is known for its consistent A-frame peaks, providing both lefts and rights, and works well on all tides. Its sandy bottom and forgiving waves make it an excellent choice for beginners, while more experienced surfers can enjoy the punchier sections on larger swells (Anza picks up swells year round, so it’s definitely one of the more consistent spots in the area if the swell is a bit small).

Panoramas
Situated on the Southern edge of Taghazout village, Panoramas offers a long, sweeping right-hander that’s perfect for surfers seeking a classic point break experience (but with the safety of a nice beach at the end). During high tide, the beach break becomes more forgiving, making it ideal for beginners to catch smaller waves.
The sandy bottom and accessible location make Panoramas a popular choice for surfers of all levels.

Crocs (and next door Devils)
Despite its name, Crocs doesn’t involve any reptilian encounters. The spot is named due to the appearance of rocks either side representing a croc opening it’s mouth.
This open and wide beach break offers more left-handers than right-handers, which is quite unusual, making it perfect for all levels and many surf schools. However, it can get busy, so plan accordingly.

Some Honourable Mentions
- Devil’s Rock: Adjacent to Banana Beach (Crocs), Devil’s Rock is an excellent spot for surf schools due to its variety of waves—lefts and rights on both low and high tides. It can hold waves up to 1.5 meters, making it suitable for beginners and intermediates.
- Banana Point: Tucked between Devil’s Rock and the nearby Banana Village, this cape offers some protection from the wind and provides a long, easy right-hander for advanced surfers, as well as a wide beach for beginners. However, be cautious of strong rips when the swell is big.
- Mysteries: Located just north of Anchor Point, Mysteries offers a point-break just off the side of Anchor Point and a nice beach break from the right. It works best at mid-tide and provides great rights suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers.
- Desert Point: A lesser-known spot that offers solitude and quality waves for those willing to venture a bit further. It’s suitable for intermediate to advanced surfers seeking uncrowded sessions.
- Tamri: Located about an hour’s drive north of Taghazout, Tamri is a northerly facing beach break that’s usually bigger than Taghazout. The bay offers a mellow right-hand point break perfect for beginners and long-boarders, while the adjacent beach provides nice A-frame peaks.
Whether you’re just starting your surfing journey or looking to challenge yourself on world-class waves, Taghazout’s diverse surf spots offer something for everyone.
Always remember to respect the local surf etiquette and environment to ensure a positive experience for all (and why not pick up some of the litter at the end of a session, if everyone does their bit, we’ll have beautiful clean beaches for everyone).
